Here's what you do if the Medium API request fails.

  1. Visit Medium → New Story.
  2. Title: fill the Title input.
  3. Content::
    1. Copy the rendered HTML from the Preview tab.
    2. Focus the Tell your story input.
    3. Paste from your clipboard.
    4. Ignore excessive whitespace: it renders alright.
  4. Cover image:
    1. Add: drag and drop into content area.
    2. Change:
      1. Open the ••• menu.
      2. Select the 5th Change featured image option.
      3. Select an image from the list.
  5. Subtitle:
    1. Open the ••• menu.
    2. Select the 6th Change display title/subtitle option.
    3. Fill the Subtitle input.
  6. Tags:
    1. Open the ••• menu.
    2. Select the 7th Change topics option.
    3. Fill the Add a topic... input.
  7. URL slug:
    1. Open the ••• menu.
    2. Select the 8th More settings option.
    3. Click the Advanced Settings on the very bottom of the left-hand side menu.
    4. Expand the Advanced Settings.
    5. Check Custom
    6. Fill Type a custom story URL.
  8. Cannonical URL:
    1. Open the ••• menu.
    2. Select the 8th More settings option.
    3. Click the Advanced Settings on the very bottom of the left-hand side menu.
    4. Expand the Advanced Settings.
    5. Check This story was originally published elsewhere
    6. Fill Type the cannonical URL....
